For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description

At Red Bull Powertrains, we’re redefining F1 power unit technology, pushing the limits of innovation and manufacturing grand prix winning power unit components. Join a team of talented individuals and visionaries dedicated to creating the future of motorsport. If you have the passion and expertise to drive excellence, the challenge starts here.

We are seeking an Advanced Measurement & Instrumentation Engineer to play a crucial role in the development of our Power Units by being a part of our team responsible for implementing novel mechanical testing solutions in response to mechanical performance, durability and fault resolution requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Completing complex power unit physics tests according to existing processes on time and on budget.
  • Conducting simplified tests representative of power unit physics to assess component durability.
  • Processing measurement data using existing methods to generate clear conclusions in test reports and knowledge sharing meetings.
  • Developing the use of advanced instrumentation hardware and data processing for any of these areas: strain, vibration, fatigue, durability, ultrafast measurement, lasers, full field methods.
  • Using strain gauges, accelerometers, laser vibrometers, motion amplification, LVDTs, optical and VR tachometers, HV probes and other sensing mechanisms to complete tests within time and budget constraints.
  • Determining instrumentation positioning for tests based on space claim and transmission paths of physics under test, designing and releasing bracketry and PU parts where appropriate.

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (minimum 2:1) in Mechanical, Automotive, Physics, or equivalent qualification.
  • Competent in the use of data acquisition measurement chain for power unit behaviour
  • Competent in the use of CAD software
  • Proficient with the use of MS Office tools
  • Strong ability to deconstruct complex problems into first principles to validate measurement approaches

At Red Bull Powertrains, we don’t just compete—we push boundaries, fight for every win, and never settle for second best. Our team is built on trust, collaboration, and an unrelenting drive to succeed. Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll benefit from:

  • Bonus scheme
  • Private healthcare
  • A pension scheme
  • On-site gym
  • Free daily food allowance
  • And many more!

Most importantly, you’ll play a crucial role in powering championship-winning F1 cars. If you thrive in a high-performance environment and want to be part of something extraordinary, apply now and help redefine the future of racing.
