Role Overview:
We are looking for a Digital Test Manager to join our Digital Technology team here at Formula 1. Reporting into our Lead Analyst, this role will lead and continuously improve F1 Digital’s end‑to‑end QA and UAT strategy, governance, tooling and partnerships so that all digital products (web, apps, F1 TV and AI‑powered experiences) are tested in a consistent, visible and reliable way that protects quality at F1 scale.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Test & QA Strategy, Governance and Standards
- Define, document and maintain the Digital QA strategy and governance model for F1 Digital.
- Own and evolve the QA Charter, including minimum standards for all external QA partners.
- Clearly define and socialise QA vs UAT responsibilities, including entry/exit criteria for both.
- Set and enforce minimum QA baselines (regression, smoke, end‑to‑end, device coverage, non‑functional).
Multi‑Partner Test Management & Quality Oversight
- Own the test relationship with all digital partners
- Set expectations for coverage, automation, environments, reporting and defect SLAs.
- Drive improvements in partner QA maturity and consistency of practice.
- Ensure partner QA is complete (or very near complete) before handover to UAT.
- Oversee cross‑product, cross‑partner test planning so that risks, dependencies and capacity are visible.
Test Tooling & Platforms (Testmo, Shake, Jira, Monitoring)
- Own Testmo as the system of record for formal testing (QA and UAT):
- Define project and folder structures across products/programmes.
- Ensure consistent use of test cases, runs, results and UAT Sessions.
- Drive adoption and good practice with all partners and internal teams.
- Own the operational model for Shake as a real‑time bug capture tool, ensuring it aligns with the overall test model.
- Drive consistent, standardised use of Jira for defect management:
- Harmonise boards, workflows, statuses and links between Jira and Testmo.
- Collaborate with Delivery Managers on UAT boards and tracking.
- Champion the roadmap for test infrastructure and monitoring:
- Synthetic and production monitoring.
- Logging and observability patterns, in partnership with DevOps and Architecture.
Performance, Non‑Functional and Environment Management
- Bring and apply performance testing expertise:
- Define performance and scalability requirements for key products.
- Shape performance testing strategy, tooling choices, orchestration and reporting.
- Oversee environment strategy and mapping across QA, UAT, Alpha, pre‑prod and production:
- Ensure environment parity, configuration and access with partners.
- Support maintenance of environment mapping and dashboards.
- Work with Ops and DevOps on deployment and rollback processes, phased roll‑outs, A/B testing and go‑live strategies, ensuring quality gates are defined and enforced at each step.
UAT Leadership & Defect Governance
- Partner with Delivery Managers, Product and Business to:
- Design and schedule UAT windows with realistic scope and resourcing.
- Ensure environments, data and access are UAT‑ready.
- Guide UAT test design across scripted, exploratory and negative testing.
- Chair or co‑chair defect triage sessions:
- Operate a clear, shared defect lifecycle and prioritisation model.
- Ensure consistent decisions on which Testmo findings become Jira tickets and how they are tracked through to closure.
- Own UAT reporting and go/no‑go quality input for key releases and events.
Leadership, Coaching & Capacity Building
- Provide day‑to‑day leadership, mentorship and coaching to Digital QA contributors (internal and partner).
- Help design clear role definitions and progression paths within Digital QA.
- Advocate for realistic QA & UAT resourcing and capacity, raising visibility of constraints.
- Influence and evangelise a quality‑first culture across Digital, Marketing, Ops and vendor teams.
Measurement and Continuous Improvement
- Define and track quality KPIs (e.g. defect leakage, coverage, UAT outcomes, incident trends).
- Use data to highlight risk areas and prioritise improvements in QA practice and tooling.
- Regularly review and refine processes, templates and governance in Confluence and Jira.
What Are We Looking For?
Experience
Prior to the role it would be essential that you:
- Have strong experience (typically 6–10+ years) in digital QA / test management.
- Have led QA across multi‑channel digital estates – e.g. websites, mobile apps, OTT style products.
- Have operated successfully in multi‑vendor, multi‑partner environments.
- Have a proven track record of building or transforming QA practices, not just operating an existing model.
- Have hands‑on experience in a Test Manager / QA Manager role with ownership of: (1) test strategy and governance, (2) tooling selection, rollout and usage, and (3) performance / non‑functional testing initiatives.
- Have strong, practical experience with test management tools and defect trackers (e.g. Testmo, Jira or equivalents), including understanding integrations and workflows.
- Have demonstrable experience with UAT planning and execution: (1) Working closely with business stakeholders and (2) providing go/no‑go recommendations with clear reasoning.
Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:
- Experience in media, streaming, live events or large‑scale consumer digital products, ideally in a high‑traffic, high‑visibility context like F1.
- Knowledge and experience of common digital platforms/technologies (i.e. iOS/Android/Roku/etc).
- Exposure to testing AI/ML‑powered products or features, including AI‑driven digital experiences.
- Experience leading QA in event‑driven or seasonal peak environments (e.g. race weekends, major launches).
- Background in test automation strategy (even if execution sits with partners).
- Experience with (1) Synthetic and real‑user monitoring tools and observability platforms, and (2) Coordinating QA and UAT for large cross‑programme or multi‑region releases.
Qualifications
You will need to have current UK driving license in this role. Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline).
- Professional certifications in: (1) Software Testing / QA (e.g. ISTQB Advanced, ISEB), (2) Agile / Scrum (e.g. Scrum Master, Agile Tester).
- Any training or certifications related to: (1) Performance testing tools and methodologies, (2) Cloud platforms and modern web/mobile architectures, (3) Observability, SRE or reliability engineering.
Knowledge & Skills
Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate:
Test Management & Governance
- Designing and implementing QA strategies and governance models across multiple teams and partners.
- Defining and enforcing QA and UAT entry/exit criteria and quality gates.
- Running structured test planning, risk analysis and reporting activities.
Tools & Platforms
- Deep, practical understanding of test management tools (ideally Testmo or similar).
- Strong experience with Jira or equivalent defect tracking tools, including workflows and reporting.
- Familiarity with real‑time bug capture tools (e.g. Shake or similar) and how they integrate into the test process.
- Awareness of monitoring, logging and observability tools and how they support quality.
Performance & Non‑Functional Testing
- Knowledge of performance, scalability, security, accessibility and compatibility testing concepts.
- Ability to define non‑functional requirements and shape appropriate test approaches with partners.
Environments & Release Management
- Understanding of environment strategies (QA, UAT, pre‑prod, prod), parity and data considerations.
- Experience contributing to deployment, rollback, phased roll‑out and A/B testing strategies from a quality perspective.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Strong stakeholder management skills with senior Product, Delivery, Engineering and Business leaders.
- Experience setting and managing expectations with vendor QA teams, including SLAs and quality baselines.
- Confident in leading cross‑functional triage and steering forums.
Analytics & Reporting
- Ability to define and interpret key quality metrics and KPIs, and to use them to drive decisions.
- Comfort presenting test outcomes, UAT results and residual risk in a way that supports go/no‑go decisions.
Personal Qualities
In this role it is essential that you are:
- Strategic and systems‑thinking – able to see across products, partners and environments and design pragmatic, scalable QA/UAT models.
- Hands‑on and outcome‑oriented – comfortable rolling up your sleeves in tools and triage sessions while still keeping an eye on long‑term improvements.
