Health and Safety Partner

Brackley, UK

Occupational Safety and Health at the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team is not something managed from a distance. It lives in the conversations between a safety professional and an engineer as a build deadline looms, in the trust built during a difficult investigation. These moments, accumulated over time, are what safety culture actually is.

Safety should never be perceived as a constraint, but as an enabler of performance. We invest time to earn time. That sharpens our thinking, strengthens our systems, and enables our teammates to perform at their very best, even when plans do not match reality. When occupational safety and health is understood deeply and applied intelligently, it creates the conditions for sustainable high performance.

We are looking for someone who understands that the greatest safety tool they will ever use is their ability to connect with people, and who uses that to drive insight, learning, and performance.

We have the bravery to challenge, the curiosity to learn, and the care to act in the best interests of our teammates and the performance of the team. We are clear on what matters, disciplined in our decisions, and accountable for the outcomes. We sense and anticipate risk, respond pragmatically, and think innovatively to deliver high performance safety.

The role:

Reporting to our Senior OSH Business Partner, you will work across the organisation to support Heads of Departments and line management in bringing our safety management system to life.

Our approach is built on three ideas:

  • The ability to sense, anticipate and respond to risk

  • A shared commitment to learning through See It, Say It, Fix It

  • Demonstrating impact through Problem, Solution, Benefit

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Maintenance of the safety management system, including the development of new material.

  • On boarding of new starters into the safety management system and delivery of safety section of new starters induction.

  • Delivery of key OSH projects.

  • Investigation of adverse events, identification, and implementation of containment measures.

  • Development and delivery of training programs across key OSH themes.

  • Co-ordination of key safety committees.

  • Delivery of audits and inspections

  • Providing local specialist support and advice on a proactive and reactive basis.

  • Coordinating health surveillance

What We Are Looking For

Holding a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and educated to degree level, ideally CMIOSH or working towards it, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has the bravery, curiosity and care to truly understand how work gets done in practice, not just how it is designed

  • Builds relationships that create trust, credibility and openness, even in challenging situations

  • Goes beyond surface-level hazard awareness, seeking insight into the risks that emerge through the interplay of context, culture and constraints

  • Anticipates how change and trade-offs shape risk, providing clear, high-quality insight that supports better decisions

  • Acts early and with intent, turning complexity into clear, actionable learning

  • Improves systems so they are resilient and sympathetic to human performance, recognising that when understanding precedes judgment, real learning begins

  • You are comfortable with ambiguity, humbly confident enough to challenge, and grounded enough to do it in a way that brings people with you. You approach safety as a discipline of influence, not enforcement.

What You Will Do

You will play a key role in shaping both system and culture by:

  • Developing and maintaining safety management system standards, guidance and governance

  • Delivering inductions, training and capability development across key OSH themes

  • Leading OSH projects from planning through to delivery

  • Supporting audits, inspections and safety committees

  • Investigating incidents and near misses to understand how work actually happens

  • Identifying trends, weak signals and emerging risks to inform proactive improvement

  • Engaging managers, safety representatives, teams and contractors to co-create practical, effective solutions

  • Coordinating health surveillance and engaging with specialist OH advice
