Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Engineering Manager – Broadcast Systems to lead a team of broadcast engineers and technicians across Formula 1’s global operations. Working within the Media Engineering department, you will ensure all F1 broadcast systems are fully operational at race events and at our fixed facilities, while delivering major technology upgrades, supporting future‑facing innovation and maintaining world‑class engineering standards.
Reporting into the Senior Media Engineering Manager, you’ll play a central leadership role in delivering high‑reliability broadcast systems, guiding multiskilled engineers, and supporting the smooth delivery of live motorsport coverage across the world.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Broadcast Operations & Event Delivery
Systems Maintenance & Technology Management
Oversee maintenance of broadcast systems at the Media & Technology Centre (M&TC) and Event Technical Centre (ETC).
Manage high‑profile technology upgrades, major system integrations and long‑term engineering improvement projects.
Support the adoption and testing of future technologies across video, audio, RF, IP and related systems.
Team Leadership & Resource Management
Lead and organise internal engineers and technicians to ensure seamless technical delivery across all events.
Manage contractor engineers, developing strong working relationships with third‑party suppliers and partners.
Ensure events are fully and appropriately crewed, maintaining high engineering standards across all shifts.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Reporting
Work closely with senior engineering leadership to report ongoing issues, developments and improvements.
Represent engineering requirements across the wider production and broadcast landscape.
Support knowledge‑sharing, documentation and standardised engineering workflows.
What Are We Looking For?
Knowledge & Skills
Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate:
Excellent knowledge of broadcast technology and system design across video, audio, RF and IP.
Strong understanding of broadcast supplier technologies (vision and audio mixers, routers, replay, graphics, etc).
Ability to lead and support a multiskilled engineering team.
Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
Ability to guide, coach and develop team members.
Experience
Prior to the role it would be essential that you have:
At least 5 years’ experience in a broadcast technology role.
Experience working in live sports broadcasting.
Proven ability to manage mid‑to‑large scale broadcast technology upgrade projects.
Experience working with a wide range of broadcast technologies (Video/Audio/RF/IP).
Some desirable experience you may bring:
Previous management experience.
Experience within Tier 1 sports or motorsport broadcasting environments.
Strong relationships with broadcast vendors, suppliers and broadcasters.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or equivalent in an engineering field (preferably broadcast‑related).
Broadcast technology certifications or advanced engineering training are advantageous.
Current UK driving licence is required for this role.
